Most masters swimmers attempting open water swims start off with simple goals – for example, to swim 2km in one session, or clock consistent timing for 10 laps and such. Open water swims seemed distant, scary dreams. In their professional lives, these folks are software engineers, entrepreneurs, homemakers but make time to prepare their mind & body for successful attempts while enduring these unknown rugged waters. Very few ever would have swum professionally or in competitions. Yet, they dream big, work hard on their training, and most importantly – have a lot of fun doing it. A positive attitude plays a big role in any open water swim, because the dates and conditions are uncertain and possibilities of failure for any reason are real. All of this and the true spirit of sportsmanship is what makes attempting any open water swimming a true adventure.
